Coming to Osceola County for the very first time, it’s the annual Anancy Festival! To kick start Caribbean Heritage Month, this year’s festival will be held on June 6, 2015 from 12-5 PM at the Lil’ Explorers Pre-School property in St. Cloud, Florida. The address is 1202 Wisconsin Ave, St. Cloud, FL 34769.

Over the past several years, the Anancy Festival has been held in multiple cities across the United States, including cities in Florida, and various countries across the world. The Festival, named for (Anansi, Ananse, Anacy) the West African trickster of folklore, is a celebration of Caribbean culture that’s geared toward families and children of all ages. The Anancy Festival was founded by Xavier Murphy, also founder of the popular Jamaicans.com and his co-organizer, Dr. Andrea Shaw, Humanities Professor at Nova Southeastern University who is also a writer and scholar of African Diaspora studies. The idea behind the festival is to recapture the childhood allure of Anan-cy stories in the same lively intriguing, oral storytelling atmosphere that continues to appeal to participants of all ages.

Along with a strong emphasis on literacy, the festival provides participants of various cultural backgrounds a unique opportunity to experience Caribbean cultural heritage by emersion in a rich collection of Anancy stories, cultural cuisine, music and dance, plus a variety of other family centered activities.

In addition to bridging cultures and promoting literacy, the festival seeks to benefit the local community by accepting donations in support of the Early Learning Coalition, Grace Outreach Ministries and the St Cloud food pantry.
